Somerset CICA solicitors recover over £93,000 for a client who was originally offered just £3,300 before she came to us.
Our Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) team has won over £93,000 for an abuse survivor who suffered a harrowing childhood sexual assault.
She initially applied to the CICA without the benefit of professional legal advice and was awarded just £3,300.
The sexual assault she suffered as a child had resulted in her having severe mental health issues, impacting both her education and her ability to hold down a job. She felt the offer was inadequate, and reached out to our specialist Somerset CICA solicitors for help.
We have succeeded in many CICA reviews and appeals, often achieving significant increases in the compensation awarded to our clients. Here are just some of our successes:
- £11,000 increased to £44,755 on review
- £16,500 increased to £181,236 on appeal
- £2,000 increased to £79,171 on appeal
- £16,500 increased to £174,622 on appeal
- £22,000 increased to £241,901 on review
We are also experienced in dealing with abuse claims.
We therefore agreed to take on the case and to work on a No Win, No Fee basis.
After collaborating with a psychologist an expert report was prepared detailing the long-term impact of the sexual assault on our client’s life. This resulted in the CICA making a revised offer, but the compensation award was only increased to £11,000, which we felt was still grossly inadequate.
We therefore decided to appeal the decision, arguing that our client was entitled to further compensation for lost earnings.
The CICA appeal was successful and resulted in our client being awarded a total of £93,755.
So, as a result of our intervention our client’s compensation was increased by over £90,000, rising from the original award of £3,300 to £11,000, and then to £93,755.
